Greenleaf Director Ben Bezark presented with Marc Thrum of Intelligent Generation for the Department of Energy and the Midwest Cogen Association as part of their Midwest Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Program. Prior to 2024, this DOE technical assistance program focused specifically on increasing adoption of combined heat and power (CHP) technologies. The program has broadened its focus to address a range of distributed onsite energy resources. Greenleaf Advisors and Intelligent Generation were invited to present to over 200 participants on the implementation of distributed onsite commercial scale batteries to reduce facility energy bills, generate new revenues, and support decarbonization efforts.
While battery storage for industrial facilities may seem new and innovative, Intelligent Generation put the first commercial scale battery behind the meter in PJM in 2017, where it has been generating bill savings, earning revenues, and providing backup power to Abt Electronics for nearly a decade.
